Munising, MI - Picture Rocks 07/10 - 07/12

We leave Wisconsin behind and move into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the town of Munising Michigan - the home of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

We started by touring the town of Munising and the nearby sites.  Naturally we had to put our feet into Lake Superior just to say we had but man is that thing cold.

There are a few very cool overlooks of the nearby cliffs and even a few nice waterfalls.

We also went to the Park Service Visitor Center and just poked around.

It may be fairy obvious but about the only way to really see the Pictured Rocks is by boat - so we took the 3 1/2 hour late afternoon boat cruise.  And as you'll see, we had an amazingly calm day for Lake Superior.

There's not too much to say about each picture except that the colors, patterns and formations are really beautiful. So here is just a sampling of what we saw out there.

If you look close - the roots of the tree on top of the rock sweep across the open span to the left to reach solid ground and water.

On the final day we took the long drive to Sable Falls which were certainly a sight to see even if we got eaten alive by the black flies.
