Pagosa Springs, CO - May 12 to May 31

This is our location for the first three weeks of our summer 'get out of the heat' excursions.  All of the services for the RV are conveniently located in the front left corner of the garage.
Mary's son Shane and Krista don't seem to object to our being here and we get some really nice access to our new GrandDaughter Everly Kay Starr born May 7.

We hope to get a lot of nice morning and evening walks down Great West Avenue with some killer views of the snow capped mountain peaks that surround Pagosa Springs.
There are usually lots of deer and we've even seen some bears.

We're also looking forward to a lot of quality reading and nap time on this fantastic front porch.

Sweet!

The Here-She-Is Birth Announcement Hershey bars finally get here on Wed May 18 to be used in lieu of the (perhaps) more traditional cigars.

As you can see, Everly is wowed!

But we're having trouble keeping Shane out of the stash!

The actual candy bars are a lot more Pink than the camera is showing ...

If you click on the photo it should go full screen and you can read the statistics and ingredients ...

Phoenix to Pagosa Springs, CO - May 11 & 12

Our summer journey for 2016 begins with the trip from Phoenix to Pagosa Springs, CO via Flagstaff, AZ, the Navajo Indian Reservation, the Four Corners area and an RV park outside the Mesa Verde National Monument.

This is a route that we have taken many many times and is pretty much how we started off last year's excursions.

We stopped at the Mesa Verde RV Resort but stayed hooked up the first night to be able to make a quick exit the next morning.

The snow covered mountains were really nice to look at but then we woke up to 28 degrees on our first morning in Colorado.

Quite the change from the high temperatures in Phoenix.

The next morning we continue on to Pagosa Springs where we meet Miss Everly Kay Starr for the very first time.

She was born Sat May 7 to Krista & Shane Starr (Mary's son).

After we got to know Everly for a little while, we set up the trailer alongside Shane & Krista's garage where we plan to spend the next three weeks or so.

We fully intend to have some quality time on this patio reading and tending to all of Everly's every need.

San Diego, CA - May 06 to 09

We make this trip without Foxy (the trailer) and stay in a Quality Inn in Mission Valley (another Free stay thanks to our Choice Visa card).

The primary reason for the trip is to witness Savannah Wedemeyer's graduation from Point Loma Nazarene University.  Whoo Hoo!  The first Grandchild with a College Degree.

The first night we link up with the grand kids at Erika & Ray's home in San Diego

But the main event is on Saturday with the Point Loma Nazarene University graduation ceremony in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable overlooking the blue waters of Pacific Ocean.

The proud Wedemeyer family with the new Graduate Savannah

And her entire family was really well represented

We celebrated afterwards with a meal at the Bali Hai restaurant out on the tip of Shelter Island.

Savannah and the girls

With us of course

On Sunday all of the ladies went Wedding Dress shopping with Savannah.

This big event is scheduled for next May.

Lake Pleasant, AZ - Feb 22 to 26

Another close to home outing to the Desert Tortoise Campground at Lake Pleasant Regional Park just north of Phoenix.

This has been one of our regular local go-to campgrounds to check out our various camping trailers.

This time we are at a site high on a hill with a great view of the lake and surrounding hills.

It certainly is desert camping.  The weather was plenty warm but the breezes kept everything pretty cool.

On Wednesday we took a ally nice 5 mile hike on the nearby Pipeline Trail which took us to the top of Yavapai Point.

Our lunch spot was right on top behind a nice shady bush with a wonderful view of the lake.

Afterwards we made a stop at the Scorpion Bay Marina Cafe for a cool one!

Tucson / Catalina State Park, AZ - Jan 18 to 22

We make our first RV excursion of 2016 down to beautiful Catalina State Park on the north side of Tucson, Arizona to do a little bit of hiking and to simply get back in the RV travel groove.  Funny how much you can forget in just three months.

We were joined by Julia & Larry Travis and Julia's sister Sarah who happens to love to cook so we ate like kings.

We had sites adjacent to one another which made meals and campfires really easy.

The views of the Catalina Mountains were really nice.

On Tuesday we took a tour of the University of Arizona Telescope Mirror Lab where they fabricate mirrors about 25 ft in diameter.

This one is in the process of cooling down before being moved to the next part of the process.

The lifting rig is pretty huge.

The lab itself is a part of and underneath the U of A Football stadium.  It essentially already had the type of foundations needed for the gigantic mirrors.

Every day was a happy hour and gas campfire.

And the Sunsets were terrific

Dinners were in the Travis RV.

On Wednesday we took a pretty rough 6 mile hike on the Romero Canyon Trail up to the Romero Pools.

The scenery was really spectacular.

As were the waterfalls and pools at the top.  It was well worth the trip.

On Thursday we made the trip down to the Pima Air and Space Museum

You best behave Johnboy!

We make a trip over to San Diego to watch Mary's granddaughter play volleyball at Point Loma University
